Science in the lab - 1r ESO

How do you dissolve the shell of your eggs?

When you submerge an egg in the vinegar, the shell dissolves. Vinegar contains acetic acid. This acid breaks the solid calcium carbonate crystals that make the eggshell. When they break, they separate the calcium and the carbonate. The calcium ions float free, while the carbonate makes Carbon dioxide – the bubbles that you see. When you finish, you will have an egg without a shell. It’s like an egg, but it’s translucent and the membrane flexes when you squeeze it.

Try to sprinkle one liver chicken with oxygenated water. What happens? Which chemical reaction happens? What gas is liberated? We have tried the presence of Catalasa in the tissues of animals and vegetables.
